Authorities report that a two-vehicle wreck occurred on Interstate 20 on Tuesday, July 21. The crash happened just east of Stanton at about 5:30 p.m., according to San Angelo Live.
Pickup Crosses Median
A 30-year-old Odessa man was eastbound on the interstate in a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup truck. At the same time, a 35-year-old male was westbound in a 2013 Hyundai Accent. For unknown reasons, the truck veered out of the eastbound lanes and into the center median. It then continued across the median and into the westbound lanes where it struck the Hyundai head-on.
One Killed, One Injured
The man driving the automobile did not survive the wreck. A Martin County Justice of the Peace pronounced him dead at the scene. Emergency personnel took the truck’s driver to Midland Memorial Hospital. Medical personnel report that he is in stable condition.
There was no initial report regarding any possible charges, or whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the car crash.
Although the investigation into this particular fatal interstate crash is just beginning, Texas state law does allow survivors of those killed due to allegedly negligent conduct to seek compensation in civil court. Sometimes, survivors pursue monetary damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering and burial expenses. A settlement is often reached in such cases without a trial.
