We’re less than a month into the new year and West Texas has already had more than its fair share of deadly accidents. A terrible crash in Midland County earlier in the week brought the total number of lives lost in area accidents to five.
Three oilfield workers were traveling in a pickup truck when they attempted to pass another vehicle on Farm-to-Market Road 1788. Unfortunately the driver failed to see another pickup approaching quickly in the opposite direction. Despite last second attempts to avoid the accident, the two trucks collided head-on and were spun into a ditch. The driver of the approaching pickup was killed along with the other driver and one of his passengers. The second passenger sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Midland Memorial Hospital.
This horrific wreck has followed a West Texas motorcycle accident where a young biker had a fatal run-in with a truck and another incident where a man driving a pickup side-swiped a tractor trailer and was killed during the wreck.
The year is still fresh and there’s still time to slow this troubling trend of deadly traffic accidents. Driving safely and with respect to the other motorists around you is the surest way of saving lives on West Texas roads.
