Road rage is described as ‘deliberately dangerous and/or violent behavior under the influence of heightened, violent emotion such as anger and frustration, involving an automobile in use.’ More often than not, road rage leads to car accidents and Odessa is no exception. Road rage doesn’t just affect the teeth-clinching angry driver or the subject of their fury; innocent bystanders are at risk as well. A recent Odessa auto accident was a horrific reminder of the dangers of road rage to all Texans.
Earlier in the week, a 44-year-old Odessa woman headed to her husband’s work and the trouble started immediately. The details of the argument that transpired aren’t clear, but it ended with the woman trying to run her husband down with her car. The man was lucky and avoided being run over… others weren’t so fortunate.
The woman crashed into a parked SUV but kept driving. She didn’t make it far before smashing into another stationery car. Tragically, a young girl was attempting to get into the car at the time it was hit. The vehicle was pushed into the young girl and she was pinned against a building, leaving her with serious injuries.
Will There be Justice For the Victims of the Car Accident in Odessa?
The woman tried to flee the scene on foot, but a witness held her until police responded. When Odessa police did arrive, they described the woman as ‘extremely intoxicated.’ Now the 44-year-old has been charged with intoxicated assault, failure to render aid, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The young girl was rushed to Medical Center Hospital where she had emergency surgery on her leg and ankle which were crushed in the accident.
